Star Spangled Banner Versions

When listening to Gottschalk and South City Voices (SCV) versions of the Star Spangled banner, there are instantly some major differences shown. Gottschalk’s version sounds like a lullaby, with just a melody going. Although I did favor it over SCV’s version. I thought they were both good but I favor the simplicity of Gottschalk’s.

Two other versions of the SSB are the Stravinsky and Hendrix versions of the SSB. Some people would be offended by the versions. I, can’t seem to find anything wrong with either of the versions. Stravinsky has a slight change in the harmony but there is nothing wrong with that. Just and artist being an artist. In Jimi Hendrix’ version I could see why people would be offended. But he is also an artist just trying to make a statement. I really appreciate Jimi Hendrix and what he did with his version.

How I learned The Star Spangled Banner

When I was younger I always heard the star spangled banner. I never really knew what it was other than the fact that you had to stand for it like the pledge of allegiance. One of my favorite performance of it is Jimi Hendrix’ guitar rendition of it. It is just one of the more unique versions of it and the reasonings behind it are also very strong. But the melody to it has always been there, but I never really learned the words until I got to high school. I honestly still don’t know the words. But after watching Fergies performance of it multiple times, it helped me learn more of it. I would say I have it about 75% memorized.
